Is Morgellons disease contagious?

There is no proof yet if the disease is contagious or not. Many health experts believed that it is not contagious since the actual cause of the disease is still unknown. It might be related to an infection process in the skin cells, but no evidence yet to affirm the suspicion.

Some health experts believed that Morgellons disease is a type of psychotic disorder making the person believe that there is something unusual happening inside his body. It could be infested with a parasite rather than a diagnosis based on clinical manifestations. (3, 4, and 5)

Morgellons disease treatment

There is no specific cure for Morgellons disease. The focus of care is based on the individual complaints and symptoms of the patient. Many people who show signs and symptoms of Morgellons disease benefitted from psychosis and tick treatment. (5, 6)

How to cope with Morgellons disease?

People who complain of Morgellons disease are surely in a great deal of stress and discomfort. Although health care professionals may disagree on the very nature of the patient's condition, they would still offer compassionate care because after all, it is every patient's rights.

To provide comfort to the patient, the doctor will acknowledge the patient's concern and will provide symptomatic care. Most of the time, the patient's behavior, mood, and thinking are affected. Hence, the patient is treated for anxiety and any other related concerns. (5, 6, and 7)

Prognosis

It is difficult to determine the prognosis of Morgellons disease given the fact that the disorder lacks clarity when it comes to symptoms, clinicl diagnosis, and cause. Morgellons disease is still not recognized as a distinct medical condition. It does not meet the diagnostic criteria that are accepted by the medical community. (4, 6, and 7)
